Wireless ADSL Routers provide a network switch for wired network equipment, a broadband modem for connection to the internet & a wireless access point for connection of wireless enabled PC, Laptops and printers.
A broadband router allows all networked PCs to connect to the internet simultaneously
ADSL modems are, almost always, USB only devices and where they do not have a network sockets to connect networked PCs to the internet, the PC with the device attached must be set up for 'internet connection sharing' and must be left on all the time other PCs require internet access. This is obviously neither a convenient or environmentaly friendly approach to shared access.
Data over Power Cables
PowerPlug Network Devices are able to transmit network data over existing house power wiring.
They are therefore well suited to an installation where it would be difficult to provide a cabled network solution or where wireless networking is not possible due to interference or distance.
The minimum required number of these devices is two.
One on PC, one on switch/hub or other PC.
Maximum number of devices is 254.
Maximum distance 200 metres.
Both ends must be on same electrical installation & phase.
A Structured Approach to Cabling
Structured Networks offer a flexible way of connecting various devices over CAT5/5e/6/7 cable.
All points return to a patch panel housed in a 19" rackmount cabinet.
The cabinet can house your network server, data switches/hubs, UPSs, etc..
Short cables are then used to 'patch' the points to the required service.
Services could be your data network, phone system, TV/Satellite or audio system, CCTV etc.

PC to PC Relocation
Since the advent of the Microsoft Windows registry it has been much more difficult to upgrade to a new PC. Trying to remember what setting you had on a favourite application or come to that, what web sites were stored under favourites in internet explorer. Microsoft have tried to help with their offering of the File and Transfer Settings Wizard but it does not copy all of the settings and cannot transfer all those programs you downloaded but can't remember where from. A new breed of utilities are available which allow the transfer of all of your desktop settings plus applications, though this is dependant on their make up and cannot be guaranteed.
OtterSoft has applications which will ease the transition to your new PC.

Viruses, Trojans, Worms, Spyware & Malware
All of the above can sometimes still wreak havoc on your PC even if you have all the latest 'Anti this & that' loaded.
OtterSoft provides a virus removal service. Some offensive applications still elude the anti- virus/spyware companies. Whilst every effort is made to remove them, where this is not possible it is best, in the long term, to save your data and re-install the operating system & applications.
